Draft: WE LEARN seeks to build a just society and healthy communities. Therefore, we focus on education, specifically the basic literacies women need to gain access to systems of power and to achieve personal and community empowerment. Women’s pursuit of multiple literacies gives visibility to our experiences as women, sustains our on-going desire to learn, encourages critical thinking, and provides the support and information necessary for reflection, understanding, and action to change our current situations.

This is a really interesting statement--one quick question though. The statement seems to be implying that "basic literacies" and multiple literacies" are equivalent. Are they?
ReplyDeleteI found this a thought-provoking statement, too. I'm just curious about the relationship between the "basic literacies" mentioned in this vision statement and what these might be (given not only the complexities of power relationships and fraught nature of what it emens to be truly "empowered", but the goals listed on this blog as well).
